Brett Bodine started his racing career in 1977 at his hometown Chemung Speedrome. In 1986 he made his Winston Cup debut in a car owned by Rick Hendrick where he finished in 17th place. Brett Bodine's first win came at North Wilkesboro in 1990 racing in his 80th start driving for Kenny Bernstein. In 19 races later he won the first of five Bud Pole Awards during the 1990 Mello Yello 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway where he finished in 12th place. It was easy for a lot of fans to overlook Brett Bodine but nobody works harder in the racing sport. Brett Bodine raced in the Nascar modified and the Bush Series in the 1986 Championship only to be the runner up to Larry Pearson. In 1987 Brett Bodine stepped in as a relief driver for Terry Labonte in Junior Johnson's Budweiser's Chevrolet in Martinsville and North Wilkesboro.
